Foundation: Learning to Communicate
ISUComm pedagogy assumes that students have two fundamental reasons to engage in communication learning. First of all, communication is a valuable academic skill in its own right that rewards students in a range of ways from self-discovery to the aesthetic pleasure of language to practical action. The ISUComm foundation communication courses directly develop these communication abilities.

Second, communication is a means to acquire and generate knowledge. It guides analysis and aids memory. Communication work in general education courses and in courses in the major enables students to realize their educational goals and to continue as flexible learners in their personal, civic, and professional lives.
